Chapter 1: Understanding Stakeholder Needs
As part of our Goodsted's mission to increase the number of users, we made a key decision: allow our current users to invite their colleagues to participate in one of our platform’s core features. To begin this project, I, as the UX designer, needed to gather feedback from the key stakeholders.
In my conversations, I aimed to understand their motivations, goals, and pain points. They wanted an inviting system that was easy to use but also effective at engaging new users. I listened closely to their needs, which shaped the foundation for the design direction.
Chapter 2: Clarifying the Problem
From these discussions, the core problem became clear: stakeholders wanted a feature that allowed users to easily invite their colleagues while ensuring that the process remained seamless and intuitive. The main goal was to expand user engagement without complicating the user experience.
I framed the problem as designing a smooth, user-friendly way for current users to invite others to join and use the feature. The challenge was to create an experience that was aligned with both the business’s growth strategy and the users’ expectations for simplicity and ease.
Chapter 3: Generating Ideas and Concepts
With the problem defined, I moved on to generating ideas. I began by sketching wireframes and brainstorming different flows that would make the invitation process as intuitive as possible. This included thinking through the user journey from sending an invite to the colleague receiving and acting on it.
Throughout this phase, I stayed in close collaboration with the stakeholders, sharing early concepts and ensuring that my ideas aligned with the company’s goals and the users' needs. Their feedback was invaluable in shaping the final direction, and together, we fine-tuned the core features that would make this system effective.
Chapter 4: Bringing the Concept to Life
With the direction clear, I created a high-fidelity prototype that demonstrated the full flow of inviting a colleague. From the user’s perspective, I mapped out every interaction, ensuring the process was simple, clear, and easy to navigate.
I conducted usability tests with real users to validate the flow. The goal was to ensure that users could successfully complete the task of inviting colleagues with minimal friction. Through these tests, I gathered feedback, made small adjustments to improve usability, and ensured that the flow was optimized for real-world scenarios.
Chapter 5: Finalizing
The usability tests confirmed that users could easily and successfully invite their colleagues to the platform. Once I was confident the design met both the users’ needs and the company’s goals, we moved the designs into development.
By the end of this journey, we had created a seamless experience that allowed users to easily invite others, expanding the platform’s user base and aligning with the company’s vision for growth.
